Ski Expedition - Lenin peak 7134 m
Lenin's peak reputation is the non-technical straightforward climb into high altitude with three high camps at 4300m, 5300m and 6100m. It is a popular destination point for climbers desiring to hike into altitude without technical challenges. The most difficult portions of this climb are the strong winds even at clear skies, changeable weather and snow conditions.
Based along the shared borders of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and China in the Pamir-Alai Range, Lenin was known as Peak Kaufmann before 1928. It was first explored in 1871 by Russian scientist A. Fedchenko, who named the mountain after his friend and governor-general of Turkestan K. Kaufmann. The first ascent of Kaufmann (Lenin) peak was made by E. Allvein and 2 Germans climbers - members of Soviet expedition, they managed to summit in september of 1928 over Krylenko pass. Todays's classic route goes over Razdel'naya peak (6148) and was pioneered in 1954 by V. Kovalev.
